COMMONWEALTH GOLD FOR DRYSDALE-DALEY

The 2019 Commonwealth Judo Championships took place in Birmingham, UK. Jamaica had one person shining the flag, our 2020 Tokyo Olympic hopeful, Ebony Drysdale-Daley, who won gold in the -70 kg category. This is the third Commonwealth gold medal won for Jamaica Judo after Tom Davies' double glory last year.

Drysdale-Daley faced Chloe NUNN (ENG) in the first round where after a few penalties given to the pair of them, she concluded the contest with a counter throw on Nunn. This allowed the 24-year-old judoka to proceeding to the semi-finals where she met top seed, Ravneet KAUR (IND). Drysdale-Daley threw Kaur for Ippon in the second minute of the contest, which led her to face Annie BOBY (ENG) in the final of the category where again the Jamaican judoka used her strong throwing skills to come out on top. Drysdale-Daley shared her view after the medal ceremony:

“It’s been great to get a few fights under my belt, being able to build on contest management is something that we have been working on. Mat time is just so crucial. I’m pleased with the days outcome.”
